Is Jeremy Allen White the next Wolverine? What’s real

No, Jeremy Allen White has not been cast as Wolverine. On November 4, 2026, one trade insider reported that he met Marvel Studios about a small role in the X-Men reboot, and Marvel has said nothing.

Three years ago, White sat across from a studio team pitching him a superhero film and folded his arms. “Tell me about why should I do your movie,” he recalled saying, in a November 2023 interview with British GQ. The executives did not take it well. He lost the job, and he told GQ he didn’t regret it: “I played it the way I wanted to play it.”

Now the actor who talked himself out of a “Marvel-y” movie may be back in the room, and this time the claws are on the table.

Label: news and analysis. This is a casting report, not an announcement. We separate what’s documented from what’s only claimed below.

Official trailer: Deadpool & Wolverine, Hugh Jackman’s last outing as Logan so far, from Marvel Entertainment on YouTube. The X-Men reboot has no trailer yet.

According to Jeff Sneider’s newsletter The InSneider, there were “whispers” that White met Marvel about a role expected to be small in the X-Men film, with much more screen time later. Outlets including SlashFilm and CBR framed it as Wolverine, the part Hugh Jackman played for 24 years.

Then Sneider pumped the brakes. When the story spread as “White in talks,” he posted on X that a meeting about a role does not mean negotiations. Some reports note the newsletter never confirmed the role was Logan.

The film itself is real. Jake Schreier, who directed Thunderbolts*, is attached, Michael Lesslie is writing, and Marvel has dated it for May 5, 2028, according to Tom’s Guide. Filming is expected to start in early 2027.

Why might Jeremy Allen White not be the next Wolverine?

The strongest argument against it is Hugh Jackman. Separate, unconfirmed reports say Jackman returns as Logan in Avengers: Secret Wars. If that’s true, Marvel would either need a variant or a handover, and handing the claws to a newcomer two films after Jackman’s comeback is a big call.

There’s also the man himself. White has never played a superhero. In 2025 he was floated to replace Daniel Craig in DC’s Sgt. Rock, a project that later stalled. And when podcast host Josh Horowitz raised the Wolverine fan casting in October 2025, White laughed: “Oh, that’s nice, man.” That’s polite, not hungry.

Marvel’s own plan points younger, too. Kevin Feige has called the reboot “very youth-oriented,” and reported cast members like Kit Connor are in their early twenties. White turned 35 in February 2026.

Why would Jeremy Allen White make sense as Wolverine?

Because Logan is not a hero. He’s a wounded man who keeps people at arm’s length and explodes when pushed. That’s Carmy Berzatto in The Bear, the role that won White two Emmys, and it’s the Springsteen he played in Deliver Me from Nowhere, which opened on October 24, 2025.

The body fits as well. White is about 5’7″, while comic-book Logan is famously around 5’3″. Jackman is 6’2″. Fans have wanted a shorter, scrappier Wolverine for years.

And a “small role” makes sense. Marvel introduced Jackman’s Logan as one mutant among many in 2000. A brief first appearance in 2028, with a bigger story later, is exactly how you would test a new Wolverine without betting the film on him.

Pylcrow’s take: the meeting is the story, not the casting

The man who once folded his arms at a superhero pitch reportedly sat down with Marvel again. That shift is the real news. The claws are still a guess.
