Daniel Caesar cancels Australia and Hawaii shows: what we know, plus his 4 albums compared

Daniel Caesar has cancelled the Australian and Hawaii leg of his Son of Spergy Tour “due to health reasons”, two days before the first Sydney show. That covers Sydney on November 5 and 6, Melbourne on November 8 and 9, Brisbane on November 12, and Honolulu on November 14 and 15. No further detail about his health has been shared, and we won’t guess.

Label: news and opinion. The news section is based on reporting from Rolling Stone Australia and The Music, linked below. The album comparison is Pylcrow’s opinion, backed by chart and review data.

According to Rolling Stone Australia and The Music, the cancelled dates are:

CityDateStatus
SydneyNovember 5 and 6Cancelled
MelbourneNovember 8 and 9Cancelled
BrisbaneNovember 12Cancelled
Honolulu (Blaisdell Arena)November 14 and 15Cancelled

He shared the news on Instagram Stories, citing health reasons. The tour’s remaining listed dates run to November 22. If you hold a ticket for any date, check your ticketing account and the venue’s page rather than social posts, because those are where refunds and any changes are confirmed.

What should ticket holders do now?

For cancelled shows, refunds normally go back automatically to the card you paid with through the original ticket seller. Don’t buy “replacement” tickets from resale sites for the same dates, and be wary of anyone selling tickets for a rescheduled show that hasn’t been announced. If you booked flights or hotels, check whether they can be changed now, before prices move.

How do Daniel Caesar’s four albums compare?

While the tour is on pause, it’s a good moment to go back through the records. Caesar has four studio albums, and they each do something different.

We used the Pylcrow Slow Burn Score: four questions, each scored 0, 1 or 2, for a total out of 8.

Album (year)Songs that lastSounds like no one elseFront-to-back listenGrowth from the last recordTotal
Freudian (2017)22228/8
Never Enough (2023)21227/8
Son of Spergy (2025)12126/8
Case Study 01 (2019)11114/8

1. Freudian (2017): the one to start with

Freudian is the record that made his name. Slow, gospel-rooted and patient, it gave us “Best Part” with H.E.R. and “Get You” with Kali Uchis. It still sounds like a debut that knew exactly what it wanted to be. If you only hear one Daniel Caesar album, make it this one.

2. Never Enough (2023): the grown-up follow-up

Never Enough is warmer and more confident than Case Study 01, and it’s the album where he finally sounds settled in his own voice again. “Always” became one of his biggest songs, and the record plays well from start to finish.

3. Son of Spergy (2025): the bravest one

His newest album is the most personal, with family and faith at its centre. It reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and No. 4 on the Billboard 200, with about 43,000 first-week units, according to Billboard. Critics were more divided: its Metacritic score is 61. We think it rewards a few listens more than a first one.

4. Case Study 01 (2019): interesting, not essential

Case Study 01 has strong moments, but it feels more like a sketchbook than a statement. It’s the one most fans return to least.

Pylcrow’s take: health comes first, and the music isn’t going anywhere

Cancelling seven shows two days out is a hard call for any artist, and nobody makes it lightly. The right response from fans is patience, not speculation. The songs are already out there, and Freudian still sounds as good tonight as it did in 2017.

We’ll update this post if new dates are announced for Australia or Hawaii.
